$13,195,000 in Federal Funds Provided for the Largest Ever Deployment of Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Fueling in Connecticut

AARA Funds Help Norwich Alternative Fuel Infrastructure
Norwich Public Utilities, with a 50% grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE), has upgraded the controls on its exisitng public-access CNG fueling station, greatly improving reliability, and installed a biodiesel facility, which includes a dispenser and data-collection device. The AARA grant will also provide 50% of the funds necessary to install 10 electric vehicle charging stations in Norwich, which are schedule to commence in March 2011. Electric vehicle purchases for utility use will follow.

"Norwich is proud to be a leader in deploying alternative fuel infrastructure and providing fuels for the future of transportation," stated John Bilda, General Manager of Norwich Public Utilities. "Norwich Public Utilities has been using alternative fuels in our fleet since 1995, and we now have the largest CNG heavy- and light-duty fleet in the state. Advancing to electric vehicles is a natural progression for this utility."
