2011 CT Clean Vehicles and Technology Expo The 2011 Connecticut Clean Fuels & Vehicles Expo was held on Tuesday, September 27. The Department of Energy outlined its agressive goal to reduce annual petroleum use by 2.5 billion gallons by the year 2020. The DOE will be relying on the Clean Cities Coalitions to promote this goal, stressing the importance of promoting alternative fuels at the local level and to expand fleets using alternative fuels within their coalition areas. Many large, national fleets have made the commitment to convert to alternative fuels. Gino Porter, Frito-Lay Northeast Fleet Manager provided insight to his company’s fleet perspective for 2011, which focuses on reliability, sustainability, and capability. On the state level, Connecticut House Majority Leader J. Brendan Sharkey spoke about the State’s views on alternative fuels and initiatives, which are in favor of promoting alternative fuels and initiatives as a way to make Connecticut competitive. The day's event concluded with a Ride-and-Drive opportunity and an impressive assortment of alternative fuel vehicles.
